Recent Kynetx App Ideas and Thoughts

Sometimes I like to read the Book of Mormon on lds.org and I would love to be able to save quotes directly from there to my goodreads.com account. Would also be cool to be able to update my progress from the site to my goodreads.com account.

At my local church, every week and month a short newsletter goes out to all of the members with reminders, schedules, and notices. I think it would be really cool to be able to do the same through a Kynetx app but also build in a function that would allow the bishop to send out message to all the users at any time. I could build it so it pulls the content from a Google calendar or a Google spreadsheet so it’s simple for the admin to update the info showing through the extension.

I love using Google reader as my RSS reader but I have the feeling that a lot of the feeds that I am following aren’t that useful enough to justify the time they take. I would love to build an app that helps me rate when articles are relevant or not. Over time the app would suggest which feeds should be pruned and which ones are worth my time.

I really want to build a home teaching app for my local church. This app would send reminders through Twilio SMS to schedule appointments. Once appointments are set the app would remind of the upcoming appointment. Users of the app would also be able to report that the home teaching had been completed for the month. I am also toying with the idea of users being able to text into the app to get the current months stats of scheduled, not scheduled, and completed. I really want this! : )

I have long loved the functionality of spotlight, quicksilver, and alfred app on my Mac. I want to build a Kynetx app that gives similar functionality to the Kynetx documentation site. With the extension installed a user could hit some keys to bring up the search window. As the user types, it would suggest pages. Once the user found what they were looking for, the app would take them there in the blink of a keyboard press. : )

I thought of an idea the other day of a web scavenger hunt. I built a simple web scavenger hunt months ago with some friends but this would be different. There would be a list of words and the scavenger would be to find the funniest or best representations of that word. Other users of the app would then be able to vote on the best and have a good laugh.

At work we have standup meetings each morning to discuss roadblocks and the plan for the day. Often, most of the time is spent relating what is going to be done for the day which isn’t working very well. I want to build an app that each employee would install that would remind them each morning to submit their short list of what they are working on for the day and would show what everyone else is working on for the day. A user could dismiss the promptings for the day on all sites and could see the list anytime by going to a predefined url where the days tasks and road blocks would be listed. This app would probably use a Google spreadsheet to facilitate this functionality because it would be nice to have this information recorded even though it could be done through app variables.

Steven Nay wrote a nice response to this list over on his blog at http://globalconstant.scnay.com/2011/01/10/kynetx-app-ideas/
